How to calculate maternity benefit and leave in 2026

Benefits for childbirth generally comprise a leave-period benefit and a one-time allowance per child; the two amounts use different calculation bases.

Monthly maternity benefit

The monthly maternity benefit equals 100% of the average salary used for compulsory social-insurance contributions during the latest six months before leave.

The standard leave period is six months. From 1 July 2026, an eligible second childbirth where the mother has one living biological child at the time of birth receives seven months. Multiple births add one month for each child after the first in that birth.

One-time allowance

The one-time allowance equals twice the reference level in the month of birth for each child. When the reference level changes, this allowance changes even if the average insured salary remains the same.
